Why should I contribute to TermWiki?

Just found about the site... I am impressed with the number of terms on the site already. Can anyone tell me why so many people are willingly contributing to the site?

It's all about passion. Wouldn't it be great to have all the terms in the world defined and then translated in all languages. TermWiki is easy to use and it might as well be the tool that will make it happen.

Thanks for your help. Can I use TermWiki to work on my terminology projects? For example, I need to compile a glossary for a medical project. It will be great if I can do this using TermWiki so I can invite reviewers to check them out on the same system.

Yes, you can! If you take a look at the left-hand navigation menu, you'll see a link to something called "MyGlossary". In that module, you can upload your existing glossary into TermWiki so you can manage it more effectively. If you don't have a glossary already, you can use the Terminologist (I think that's what it's called) workbench to build your own bilingual/multilingual glossary right in your browser. Then you can send it to friends, colleagues, etc., for review. Try it out -- it's pretty cool. There's a fairly comprehensive walkthrough here: http://www.termwiki.com/Help:Walkthrough

Well, think terms like web domain names. One you add them to TermWiki, you own the title to those terms so when people search for them, your profile will show up. Of course you need to add quality content to clearly define the terms so no one else will want to improve them which may share some of your spotlight.

A number of things: terms added or translated in the site are permeanently stamped with the contributor's username, making them effectively "theirs". Depending on how fully they fill out their user pages, this is potentially an excellent marketing opportunity for translators and experts working in particular fields. In addition, contributors to the site are permitted to download three times the number of terms they add. And finally, TermWiki runs a number of competitions with prizes.
